How To Tan Like A Victoria’s Secret Angel
What’s the most important thing standing between a Victoria’s Secret Angel and the runway? Jimmy Coco.
Jimmy Coco has been the trusted Victoria’s Secret Angel Tan Man since 2005 after a chance encounter with Miranda Kerr where he offered her a spray tan. Then all the Angels were asking for spray tans and Jimmy became their go-to guy for the show.
Before the Angels hit the most-watched runway, Jimmy Coco must make sure they’re bronzed to absolute perfection.
Choosing your product
Jimmy knows the perfect color is the color that suits each individual best. Using his signature range, Jimmy uses “tan-tone to skin-tone” combinations to ensure the perfect color on the Angels. He uses a green base for babes with a reddish skin-tone, a violet base for models with a yellow undertone and a lower base active for women of color for a gorgeous cherry glow.
Jimmy uses up to 3.5 liters of spray tan to give the perfect skin finish ready for the runway. Jimmy will use up to 3 coats of tanner on each model, with each coat taking around 25 minutes. This will ensure the tan will last for seven days. Jimmy’s focus is correcting any tan lines and uneven skin tones for an all-over even tan-tone.
The key to a perfect Jimmy Coco-style tan is contouring. Jimmy always defines the center line of the abdominals and the spine of the back. He then tans around the breast to give a lighter appearance at the top of the breast to give lift and draw attention to the bra! His signature butt contour (aka Kim Kardashian’s secret!) is a heart-shaped contour which also gives the appearance of a butt-lift. This is done by shading from the tailbone around the hips and down to the bottom of the butt. The top part of the butt is tanned slightly lighter.
When to tan
For the big event, Jimmy will tan most of the models a day or two prior and some on the day of the show. Once Jimmy applies the tan, the Angels are advised to rinse off with warm water six to eight hours later. After the shower, the Angels will dry themselves lightly and apply a moisture-rich lotion to the skin. Hydration is the key to a long-lasting, healthier looking tan!
Keeping that glow
To make a tan last, Jimmy recommends drinking lots of water and applying a gradual tan lotion (like Jimmy’s Signature Range Everyday Superstar Gradual Tan Lotion). Last minute touch-up is done using makeup-removing towelettes to soften any smudges and followed up with a light spray-tan application using an airbrush pump.
